Mattegoda is a residential town in the Homagama Divisional Secretariat area of Colombo District, Western Province, about 3 km from Kottawa along the A4 High Level Road. Colombo Fort is around 22 km away by road, and the town borders Kottawa to the north and Pannipitiya to the north-west.

Mattegoda grew from coconut smallholdings into a housing suburb after a government scheme built homes here in the late 1980s. Alongside its residential streets it still has some light industry, including a metal-furniture factory, left over from that earlier, more rural economy.

There is no railway station in Mattegoda; Kottawa, on the Kelani Valley line, is the nearest. Bus routes 138/2 along the High Level Road and 342 between Kottawa and Piliyandala serve the area, and the Southern Expressway is reached via the Kottawa or Kahathuduwa interchanges. The Makumbura Multimodal Centre at Kottawa is the main hub for longer-distance buses and expressway services.

Day-to-day shopping is split between a small supermarket in Mattegoda itself and a larger choice of shops in Kottawa. Schools include a mix of government Sinhala-medium schools in and around the town, and healthcare is covered by a private hospital in nearby Pannipitiya and the government base hospital in Homagama. There is no significant park or water frontage within Mattegoda itself.

Development here is mostly about road access rather than any single large project: the Southern Expressway's Kottawa and Kahathuduwa interchanges are both within a few kilometres, and the wider Homagama area is the subject of separate transport upgrades, including a planned rail modernisation and a new expressway further south. New residential and plot developments in Mattegoda are listed further down this page.

Mattegoda tends to suit buyers who want a quiet residential street within easy reach of Kottawa's shops and expressway access, without a location directly on the High Level Road. It is a common search area for families who already know the wider Kottawa–Homagama corridor and want a smaller, more settled town within it.
