Wadduwa is a coastal town in Kalutara District, Western Province, on Galle Road (A2), about 33 km south of Colombo by road. It falls within the Panadura Divisional Secretariat and is administered by the Panadura Pradeshiya Sabha, and the built-up area runs for several kilometres along the coast, reaching about 4.5 km inland at its widest and no more than about 1 km toward the sea.

The town is known for its coconut groves and beach, a run of resort hotels including The Blue Water at Thalpitiya, designed by Geoffrey Bawa, and the Daladawatta Purana Maha Viharaya, also at Thalpitiya, a temple founded in 1879 whose annual perahera has run since 1933 and closes Galle Road for a night each year.

Coastal Line trains reach Colombo Fort in about an hour, with roughly 18 services a day from Wadduwa Railway Station in the town centre, and by road the journey is around 34 km. There is no Southern Expressway interchange in Wadduwa itself: the nearest, Gelanigama, mainly serves Panadura and Horana, and Dodangoda further south mainly serves Kalutara, so most trips onto the expressway mean a longer drive to one of those, or using Galle Road, which can be slow through the town centre at peak times.

Daily needs are more limited than in a larger town: there is no government hospital in Wadduwa itself, with the nearest at Panadura and Kalutara, and a Cargills Food City at Pothupitiya covers everyday groceries. Wadduwa Central College serves local families. The coast and the coconut groves behind it are the main open space, and a resident's day here tends to run around the beach, the temple grounds and the strip of hotels rather than a conventional town centre.

There is no major infrastructure project specific to Wadduwa in current records. The established resort hotels along this stretch of coast, including The Blue Water, remain the area's main commercial activity alongside agriculture. New residential developments in and around Wadduwa are listed further down this page.

Wadduwa tends to suit holiday-home and second-home buyers drawn to an established beach and resort coastline, along with buyers who want a quieter coastal town within a rail journey of Colombo and are comfortable without a local expressway interchange or a hospital in town.
