The Main line, the Kelani Valley line and the Coastal line towards Galle and Matara all connect here, and Colombo Fort station is a couple of kilometres away.

Maradana also has a technical college, business institutions and several leading schools, including Ananda College, Nalanda College, Zahira College, St. Joseph's College and Asoka College. The Lotus Tower is nearby, and a statue of Colonel Henry Steel Olcott, founder of the Theosophical Society, stands in the area.
