Wellawatte is a neighbourhood of Colombo lying immediately south of Bambalapitiya, and it is zone 6 of the Colombo Municipal region. It begins at the old Dutch canal just before the Savoy Cinema and runs south to the canal that reaches the sea where Dehiwala begins, with the Indian Ocean on its western side.

The name means "Sandy Garden" in Sinhala and "White Garden" in Tamil. In colonial times much of the area was coconut estates owned by European families, and many roads still carry the names of the Gauder family, such as Charlemont, Frederica, Collingwood and Alexandra. The landmark Savoy cinema was built in the 1940s.

Today Wellawatte is a built-up commercial and residential area with a small amount of light industry. New apartment complexes stand alongside older housing, particularly near the canal. Schools in the area include St. Clare's College, Arethusa College and St. Lawrence's Convent, and it has many temples, kovils, a church and mosques.
